An insider's guide to the perfect day trip to Glacier National Park begins in the city of Great Falls, Montana. It continues north as you explore communities such as Fairfield, Choteau and Dupuyer along the way. A little over three hours, the trip is well worth the drive to have the chance to take in the expansive views at Logan Pass.

Great Falls:
The night before you leave for your day trip to Glacier, explore the beautiful town of Great Falls, known as the "Electric City," because of the dams dotting the Missouri River that runs through it. Stretching almost sixty miles along both sides of the Missouri River, the River's Edge Trail provides the perfect opportunity to experience Great Falls. Along with spectacular views, the trail offers eighteen public art pieces, access to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and one of the world's largest freshwater springs and the shortest rivers, the Roe River, at Giant Springs State Park. Then get up early and hit the road to enjoy breakfast in the beautiful town of Fairfield.
Fairfield:
Part of the "Golden Triangle," Fairfield is considered the world's malting barley capital. And it is the perfect place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee and a fresh-baked pastry at the Cozy Corner Cafe. The Cozy Corner is also part of the Central Montana Pie Trail. Just after leaving Fairfield, you will see Freezout Lake Wildlife Management Area, which is a stopping place of rest for nearly 300,000 snow geese as they continue their migratory flight in the spring. The spectacular Rocky Mountain Front will be visible in the west during your whole drive. Next, you will come to the town of Choteau.
Choteau:
In Choteau, you will find the Old Trail Museum, part of the Montana Dinosaur Trail. During the summer, this is a great place to stop for an ice cream treat! The area was a breeding ground for dinosaurs millions of years ago. It was the first in North America to yield dinosaur egg fragments and nests, which revolutionized our understanding of dinosaur social interactions. The first dinosaur remains discovered are displayed at The Montana Dinosaur Center in Bynum, 13 miles north of Choteau.

Dupuyer:
A perfect midway point of the drive is grabbing a mouthwatering burger at Buffalo Joe's in Dupuyer. Their burgers are freshly made each day from Certified Angus ground chuck that is never frozen.
Logan Pass:
One of the best-kept secrets is entering Glacier National Park from the east side of the park called the Saint Mary Entrance. The crowds are fewer on this side of the park, but the views are just as spectacular. Driving from Saint Mary to the Logan Pass Visitor Center is nothing short of breathtaking. Once here, you will want to take time to hike and explore around the visitor center. This year, entering Glacier National Park will require two things; a park pass plus a $2.00 Entry Reservation Ticket.
